Description

An excavation carried out in advance of the construction of a new Utilities Workshop at RAF Lakenheath revealed a continuation of the line of ditches marking the northern boundary of the Roman settlement. Ploughlines, apparently contemporary with the earliest ditches, demonstrated the use of land immediately beyond the settlement for arable farming. Finds include pottery from the Late Iron Age, Roman and Early Saxon periods, tiles from both Roman and Post Medieval periods, flint dating from Neolithic to the Bronze Ages, and undated animal bone.
