Description
Evaluation was carried out on c.59ha of arable farmland. Forty-two 50m long by 1.8m wide trenches were opened on the north side of the river (c.35.9ha area) which identified deposits dating to the prehistoric and early Anglo-Saxon periods including several ring ditchs. The natural geology was at a depth of between 0.3m-0.8m. A further twenty-eight 50m trenches were opened to the south of the river in a 24ha arable field
The trench plan was placed to target a variety of geophysical anomalies and known areas of cropmarks. The field lay across the natural north-east facing slope of the Lark valley, with the eastern portion lying on the floodplain (S1).
