Description

Excavations in advance of a house development on land between 57 and 59 College Street have identified a large medieval cellar that is dated from its flint-coursed walls to the Norman period. The tarmac and much of the gravel sub-base were removed using a 360. Much of the infill of the cellar was done during the 20th century and the early medieval cellar corridor was infilled as a single event in the late medieval period. These deposits were removed with shovels and careful machining (S1).
