Description

Previous investigations in the area had revealed very soft organic clay and peat to 4.1m adjacent to River Linnet along the edge of the site. Therefore, this investigation included four hand auger boreholes at locations shown on the appended site plan, together with Mackintosh probes adjacent to each hole. The results show that topsoil thickness range from 0.4m to 0.6m although in TH3 the bottom 0.45m. Were described as a subsoil Fill. The topsoil/subsoil typically overlay sandy gravelly clays with chalk fragments and rootlets. The auger was unable to penetrate below 0.8m to 1.2m depth. The adjacent Mackintosh probes confirmed the clays as in a soft/firm condition and no soft alluvial deposits were encountered (S1).
