Description
Monitoring was carried out on the laying of replacement lighting for the Abbey Gate in Bury St Edmunds. The work was designed to be non destructive by laying the cabling no more than 40cm below the ground surface. Trench was excavated across the pavement next to the Abbey gate in order to locate the cable. A large section from the street to the gate was dug. Trench ran from 1.3m deep to 0.95m deep. Next to the gate there were bricks below the benches and a short wall. These extended 0.5m from the top of the pavement and sat on flint and mortar foundations.
