Description
Archaeological excavation on an area 0.2ha was carried out following a previous evaluation for the residential development of the site. The site stratigraphy was simple and consistant across the site. The existing topsoil layer was plough soil, a mid-grey brown, friable sandy silt. It sealed a subsoil layer which was probably a post-medieval plough soil. The natural superficial geology was pale orange brown silty clay. The depth of the plough soils and scarring observed during the removal suggests that the features recorded and the natural geology had been truncated to some extent. Shallow features are unlikely to have survived the process (S1).
