Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on the lowering of ground levels within a barn as part of a barn conversion. A small trial hole had been excavated to examine the barn footings with the area of a later extension and a 16th to 17th century brick was recovered from this. The footings were also examined from the inside face following the lowering of the internal ground levels. The reduced level was 1.05m below the base of the sole plate. Approximately 60% of the ground level reduction was fully seen. There was no evidence of a deliberate surface being lain down.
