Description
Monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction of a new house within the garden of the property. Two visits were made. Topsoil and other overburden was removed from the footprint of the building, an area measuring c.220sqm. Tree disturbance was evident over the stripped area and a singe cut feature was identified, possibly representing terracing or landscaping of the garden. A small assemblage of both stratified and unstratified medieval pottery was recovered. Topsoil as 0.5-0.6m thick, very dark brownish grey slightly clayey sandy silt with occasional stones and animal bone frafments (S1).
