Description
An archaeological excavation was conducted prior to the proposed development of the site. The project was initially a monitored strip of the overburden to the car park formation level or the top of the preserved archaeology, whichever was shallower. The depth of the preserved archaeology immediately below the topsoil and the density of the features meant these deposits would be lost during the construction works and therefore a full excavation of the site was to be conducted before development could commence. Anglo-Saxon, prehistoric and Roman finds were identified.
