Description

Excavation was carried out in advance of a school development. The proposed development occupise an area of c.5.7ha. The excavation took place in three areas totalling c.2.37ha, avoiding the centre of the site which has been affected by a former runway of the WW2 Rougham Airfield. Area 1: 7500sqm excavated to the top of the undisturbed natural geology which was generally identified at a depth of 0.3m-0.5m. Area 2: 2700sqm excavated to the top of the undisturbed natural geology which was generally identified at a depth of 0.38m-0.59m. Area 3: 13500sqm was excavated to the top of the undisturbed natural geology which was identified at a depth of 0.41m-0.53m. A uniform layer of dark grey/brown sandy silt topsoil overlaid a subsoil comprised of light yellow/brown silty sand containing flint (S1).
