Description

2017: Above ground building alterations and groundworks associated with the provision of new toilet facilities at St. Mary at the Elms, Ipswich, required archaeological monitoring of the works. A hand excavated service trench around the north side of the church was monitored, its stripped surfaces and exposed sections studied for features. The spoil was scanned for artefactual evidence. Any disarticulated bone disturbed during the excavation was collected for reburial during the backfilling of the trench.
