Description
Watching brief for the construction of a rear extension. A site visit was made on 26 January 1998 during the excavation of the strip foundations. Footings were excavated to a depth of 0.9-1m depth, cut into a yellow clay subsoil. The subsoil surface was generally at 0.3m below the modern garden surface. Two pits were recorded appearing in section to the very bottom of the trench. Because of waterlogging in the footing trench it was not possible to determine whether the footing corresponded to the full depth of the pits. A brick drain was see 0.7m below the modern ground surface in the western section (S1).
