Description

2019: An archaeological evaluation and monitoring were carried out at Land at Wolsey Grange, Ipswich. This was the third phase of evaluation which comprised the excavation of 7 trenches measuring 30.00m x 1.80m to sample part of the site to the south of Poplar Lane that had not previously been investigated. Trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.35m-0.45m to natural geological deposits of Lowestoft Formation - Sand and Gravel. Archaeological features were identified in only in trench 1. Archaeological Monitoring was undertaken of topsoil stripping of an area for a proposed balancing pond at the east end of the site to the North of Poplar Road. Only one archaeological feature was identified; a post medieval ditch. (S1)
