Description
2002: A brick kiln was discovered on land belonging to Gedding Hall Farm in 2001 and was partially excavated by local amateurs. SCCAS was notified and invited to investigate the structure before it was infilled. At the time of excavation the site had been partially open for c.1 year. The northern tunnel and part of its stoke pit had been almost completely emptied of rubble fill and the southern tunnel still contained backfill and was not fully defined. Due to time constraints, three areas were targeted for excavation. The northern tunnel was cleaned down to ash-covered floor, the stoke pit section was cleaned and the floor exposed, and the southern tunnel was partially cleared down to the floor and a section of its fill was obtained.
