Monument record NAC 016 - Bridge Wood

Worked flints including one thumbnail scraper ; sherds of coarse red handmade pottery, of LBA type ? , undecorated, containing much coarse grit; burnt flint (S1).
Site first noted by a schoolboy, investigated by Brown B. Located on crest of hill, on border of Bridge Wood, in wood and wasteland adjoining wood (S1).
Basil Brown visited site with Derek Bower in April/May 1946, when flints & pottery were collected in Bridge Wood. Brown thought that one of the sherds came from BA bucket urn. Trial holes were dug but excavation was difficult owing to tree roots and although sherds and flints were collected from surface, none were dug out nor any black earth layer located (S2).
