Full Description
All Saints Church, Barnardiston, is situated to the S of the parish in the village. There is no record of a church here in the Domesday book but it is possibly included as one of the two churches documented for Hundon (S2). The church is mainly C14, Perpendicular and consists of a chancel, nave, N porch and embattled W tower. The C14 square tower has a castellated parapet and diagonal buttresses. The chancel is C13 and the N porch is C15 with a tall painted arch. The N doorway is C14 and the door has a wicket door within it with a ogee shaped head. The roof of the nave is of a mansard type, lead covered and it has arch-braced tie-beams with angels alternating between each principal. The chancel roof is tiled. There is a C15 screen with traceried ogee arches and a C15 octagonal font with quatrefoil panels. The octagonal pulpit and wood lectern are C17, also the baluster rail. Some of the bench ends have blank tracery (S1).
