Full Description

A church (and 6 acres) is listed in Darsham in the Domesday survey of 1086. Church of All Saints. Consists of chancel, nave, S porch, W tower. Norman: N & S doorways.
C13: Lancet on N side of chancel.
1460: 6s 8d given for the new steeple.
C15: Tower.
1879 & 1887: Restoration (S1).
Details in (S2)(S3).
1999: A programme of renovation necessitated the removal of a render layer covering the south walls of the nave and chancel, revealing the underlying wall fabric and blocked architectural features. An examination of the various wall fabrics suggest that the chancel of the original ‘Norman’ church was extended to the east during the 13th century, while the nave was probably extended to the west, and raised in height, during the 14th century, possibly in conjunction with the insertion of windows in the south chancel wall. The 15th century saw the construction of the tower and the insertion of at least two, possibly three windows in the south wall of the nave. Details in (S4).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 1999 (S5).
