Monument record RGL 013 - Chapel Farm; Ringshall Chapel

Possible location of Ringshall Chapel, a Free Chapel, built circa 1174, belonging to Priory of Norwich, assigned to Hoxne Priory in 1294 (S1)(S2).
In ancient demesnes held by Rockell's/Willisham & Rockells sub-manor in C13 - ?located to moated site adjoining Chapel Farm (RGL 002) (S3)(S1).
1764: "Ruins of it (the Free Chapel) are said to be now remaining" (S4).
Chapel Farm, named as such on 1st edition OS map of 1837 & later. 'Chapel (remains of)' shown on OS 6" map of 1905. 'South part of farmhouse originally a chapel. No trace in 1953' (S5).
c.1812: Entry in covers of parish registers for 1539 -1812 include entry (referring to list of Rectors) as follows: "When the names of two Rectors occur in the same year, one was of the Free Chapel, some remains of which appear in Chapel Farm-house. Inthe garden, bones are dug up and in a field near it is the site of a large mansion, the foundation of which may be traced with a moat, two ponds and a terrace. The plough turns up the gravel which formed the road to it" (S2). This entry sound more like Ringshall Grange moated site (RGL 001). Also see (S6)(S7). Remains of chapel in Chapel Farmhouse apparently destroyed in a rebuilding of circa 1910 (S8). There is clearly some confusion over these site/s. Further details in (S9).
