Full Description
Bronze disc brooch with backward looking animal
Diameter 1.2inches, Thickness .06 inches. Beast to left with head turned backward and mouth open. Tail turned back parallel with snout, tip bifid. Spiky mane. Feet with 2:3:3:3 claws. Border of 28 sub-rectangular beads, surrounded by rim. Roundels at eye, shoulder and rump. Hinge and catch VIII-II (positions based on a clock face giving hinge position first). The catchplate had been complete but was broken whilst in possession of Doctor Clouston (S1)
Formerly in the possession of Doctor Clouston (deceased) who numbered it 786. On permanent loan from R W M Clouston, Radlett, Herts (S2). Reputed but not with certainty to have come from Cavenham (S2).
