Full Description

Part of a 45 ha evaluation prior to housing development that located an area of undated features, two post medieval ditches and an amount of unstratified pottery, mainly prehistoric with some of possible Early Saxon and a few sherds of Roman (S1).

Desk based assessment identified a moderate potential for isolate prehistoric lithics, with settlement not suspected and a moderate potential for medieval evidence in the part of the site closest to Chapel Farm (S2).

Desk based assessment identified that the site is located in an area with a substantial archaeological dating to from Prehistory to the present. The potential for remains of Bronze Age rural settlement was identified, with a possibility of Iron Age Activity. There was some potential for medieval remains, possibly connected to the chapel which may have given Chapel farm its name. The recent history of land use and nearly excavated sites, suggested that any archaeological remains will have suffered truncation from ploughing (S3).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2007 (S4).
