Full Description

The barn is of mid-19th C and is a timber-framed, weatherboarded and pantiles structure of 3 bays, adjoining a small cattle yard to the east and a pair of double doors to the west. A lean-to porch with low but wide doorway projects into the yard. The carpentry is typical of the period, with a tall brick plinth, bolted knee braces and many re-used timbers from a previous barn. The structure formed part of an extensive 'model' farm of the 19th C, however the historic interest of the sight has deminished, as much of it has been converted or partly demolished (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
