Full Description
Street Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os map. The farmstead is laid out in a regular courtyard full plan. The farmhouse is detached and set away from the yard. The farmstead sits alongside a public road in a village location. This farmstead survives intact with conversion for residential use. (S2-5)
Range of farmbuildings associated with a 16th C timber-framed and plastered farmhouse with a tiled roof and a jettied upper storey. This includes a 16th C timber-framed and weatherboarded barn on a flint and brick plinth, with a tiled roof that was once originally thatched. This barn has 5 bays and 2 threshing floors, as well as a brick and flint range extending from one side; this barn has now been converted. Also present are a number of other buildings, dating somewhere between the 16th-19th C; this includes a granary over an open storage building, a cartshed and a timber-framed livestock shed on a brick plinth. These buildings have been much altered through time (S1).
Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
