Full Description

Farm buildings at Wrenshall Farm which include a 17th C timber-framed and weatherboarded barn with a clasped-purlin roof and diamond mullioned windows. The barn originally had 5 bays but was extended by a further 5 bays in the 18th C. It appears that a number of the timbers used to construct this building were re-used from a 16th C house. Also present is an 18th C timber-framed and weatherboarded stable on a brick and flint plinth. This also has a clasped-purlin roof and utilises some re-used timbers (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
