Full Description
Bawdsey Hall, Bawdsey. Combined type 22 and type 23 pillbox. Single storey, regular hexagonal plan front section, rectangular plan rear section attached to NW wall. Rear section consists of an open anti-aircraft light machine gun emplacement.
[Recorder John Harding gives grid reference TM 35063914].
2014: A survey of WW2 heritge at risk on the Suffolk coast recorded that the pillbox had suffered from coastal erosion which had undermined the seaward half of the monument, the Type 22 element, causing it to break away from the rear half and start sliding down the cliff. (S2)
2019: Due to cliff erosion now situated on the beach. A number of anti-landing scaffolding poles visible in 2018 have also disappeared.
