Full Description
2010: Evaluation trenching revealed evidence for prehistoric activity across the development area with two main concentrated areas. The activity consisted of chiefly Late Neolithic struck flint scatters, Early Neolithic and Late Bronze Age pit and posthole groups, Middle Bronze Age field systems and, most notably, two burnt pits each containing a complete or near-complete Early Bronze Age vessel. Large quantities of struck flint were recovered from the trench topsoil, particularly in the soil above and surrounding the two Early Bronze Age pit (S1).
2011: The Paddocks site uncovered a Late Neolithic pit situated to one side of a struck flint mound of the same date, with satellite pits containing either complete pottery vessels or cremations, dating to the Early Bronze Age. In addition, Early Iron Age storage pits containing large assemblages of pottery and re-worked Late Neolithic flint were recorded. Features on the site have been dated by finds assemblages and radiocarbon dates to the Late Neolithic, Early Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. A significant Late Neolithic lithic assemblage was also recovered (S1).(see also MUIN 039)
2010: The magnetometer data revealed widespread evidence for 'patterned ground' that is formed naturally in periglacial conditions. A small number of linear and discrete anomalies were classified as uncertain in origin and may relate to former anthropogenic activity (S3)
