Full Description

Two barns at Rushbrook Farm. One is a 17th C timber-framed barn of 5 bays, which has been partially repaired in brick during the 20th C. There is also a 19th C 3 bay threshing barn at the site, containing timbers re-used from a 15th C unaisled barn, likely to have once stood at the site. This underwent a number of alterations during the late 19th C and may have been used as a stable or cow house. Another outbuilding is present on historic maps from the19th C, although it does not survive today. This may have been a cowshed or a cartlodge and granary (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
