Opened in 1849 on the Great Eastern Main Line. In 1867 the Eye Branch Line was opened and Mellis became a railway junction. The branch line closed to passengers on the 2nd February 1931 but the line continued to serve trafic goods until the 1960s. The station closed to passengers in November 1969 and was demolished in 1975. During the 1980s the line was electrified and re-signalled with electric services to Norwich operating from June 1986. The signal box, built in 1883 to repalce an earlier structure, and the remains of the old platform were demolished soon after.
