Full Description
2005: Negative watching brief. See Event for details (S1).
2013: Evaluation revealed five phases of activity, the most recent phase comprised the laying of the concrete car park. This surface was removed prior to excavation of the trial trenches. A second phase of modern activity comprising rubbish pits cut through a Levelling Layer. This layer formed the third phase of activity truncating and sealing existing modern features and preparing the site for the laying of the concrete. The fourth phase of modern activity comprised rubbish pits and an early modern wall relating to structures associated with the buildings fronting High Street. The final phase relates to earlier agricultural activity and was a homogenous subsoil layer. Despite the high potential for medieval and post medieval back-yard/industrial activity no features predating the early modern period were present (S2).
Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2013 (S3)
