Full Description
Geophysical survey identified a range of anomalies were recorded during the survey, some of which have a potential archaeological origin. Some of the responses are associated with the demolition material from the former airfield and runway. Two dis-continuous strong positive trends, aligned east-west, are likely to be remnant field boundaries that were probably backfilled to make way for the airfield. The northern most edge aligns well with an existing hedgerow that is still extant to its east. A curving dis-continuous positive linear trend was different in character to the strong positive linear features any may represent a different phase of site activity and are perhaps older ditch features. Sixteen positve discrete anomalies indicate possible archaeological rubbish pit. An area of thermo-remnant response was recorded between the dis-continuous anomalies representing an area of burning that may be of archaeological origin but may also be modern (S1).
