Monument record IKL 199 - Boundary bank and depression earthworks, Icknield Heath RIS, Icklingham

2015: Rapid earthwork identification survey identified new earthworks to the south of Icknield Heath. A boundary bank was noted on the west boundary of the heath, along with a number of depressions across the area surveyed some of which are likely to be post-medieval. At TL81087593-TL81177588 are a line of depressions which may possibly represent military trenches. Similar depressions were seen to the north of the access roat to the east from the B1106 (S1).

A probable post medieval boundary bank and probable Second World War hollows are seen as earthworks on visualised lidar data (S2). The probable boundary bank has been recorded as part of IKL 360 with further sections of the boundary bank mapped by this survey. The possible Second World War hollows most likely relate to explosive craters and have been recorded as part of IKL 353 with further features identified by this survey, most likely relating to Berners Heath Second World War-Cold War bombing range.
