Full Description

October 2015: An archaeological evaluation revealed four undated ditches and two pits. Two of the ditches may relate to a prehistoric droveway, as indicated by cropmark evidence in the adjacent fields (see TYN 122). The other ditches may be part of the later prehistoric of the field systems. Later Neolithic pottery was revealed from an animal burrow which had disturbed one of the pits and the pottery was originally thought to derive from the pit (S1).

November 2015: Archaeological excavation revealed evidence for an Iron Age trackway, several small pits and a series of nine post holes. The trackway was on a north-west to south-east alignment and it forms part of a wider prehistoric landscape divided into fields and enclosures (see TYY 122). The postholes were located at the southern edge of this trackway and were aligned parallel to it. The postholes indicate a possible fence line or other structure. The remains identified within the target excavation areas appear to be largely in keeping with the Middle-Late Bronze Age and Iron Age date for the field systems (S2).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2015 (S3).
