Full Description
July 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The faint soilmarks of an undated boundary bank and/or road are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The lack of relationship of the linear with the roads and boundaries in current use – and those on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S2) – would suggest a pre-medieval date, although it is possible that the road system has been altered – the pronounced kink in Cracks Lane could also suggest this and the fact that the feature is parallel to the more westerly section of the road. Given the amount of Roman and Saxon activity in the area, it is possible that the boundary and/or road could relate to a feature of this date.
S. Horlock (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 8th July 2015.
