Full Description
Kiln Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed OS map and the Great Bealings Tithe map. The farm house is a listed building and dated to the 16th century or early 17th century. The farmstead is laid out in a multiyard pattern with L-plan, T-plan, and linear courtyards. The farmhouse is detached and set away from the yards. The farmstead is set at the end of a public road. The T-plan ranges, and one arm of the L-plan have been lost. There is a large extension on the house and a further extension to the remainfing arm of the L-plan which has been converted to residential use. This represents significant (50%) loss.
Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
