Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.

The farmstead, of which the property now known as Alder Carr Farm was part, included a C15 farmhouse, a number of C19 barns and the buck of a post mill used as a dovecote. The farmstead has undergone various name changes (Gooserye Farm, Houghton Park Farm and prior to that Bridge Farm). The farmstead remained in common ownership until 1981 when the barns and dovecote were separated off from the farmhouse and became known as Alder Carr Farm. One of the C19 barns was converted by the new owners into a residential property and has recently been named The Farmhouse. The original C15 farmhouse of the farmstead remains and is now known as The Old Hall (S7).
