Full Description
2021: The features comprised ditches, pits, postholes, posthole alignments and small hearths. The majority of features were undated and there was a distinctive lack of artefacts. This is partially due to the acidic soils of the area destroying soft materials, but the small amount of pottery retrieved comprised Post Deverell Rimbury ware dated to the late Bronze Age. This is also a period generally not rich in finds. The fragments were small and isolated and could be part of residual background material rather than
specifically dating each feature. However, the presence of pot boilers in a small pit also point to a prehistoric date for some of the archaeology found within the site. Archaeological activity was found to notably drop away to the north end of the site. Overall, the features suggest the presence of a late prehistoric settlement or settlement edge, even though a later, potentially early medieval date, cannot be entirely ruled out for some features.
