BRITISH CARGO VESSEL, 1775
Status: Casualty

`The ACTIVE, Putilla, from Dundee to London, is totally lost off Orfordness, eight passengers and six of the crew drowned.' (3)

`Ipswich, Oct.25: We have had the misfortune to lose...2 vessels near Aldborough, names unknown. Several dead bodies came ashore, and some appear to be people of consequence.' (4)

`The same night [19-OCT], the ACTIVE, Patullo, bound from Dundee to London, laden with coals and bales of cloth, was drove on shore upon the beach, off Orford; there were 19 men and a woman on board; of whom, the woman and 13 men unfortunately perished. The woman had been very lately married, and her husband was of the number that perished with her. Of the 19, 14 were passengers, of whom one only was saved.' (5)
