1831 wreck of barque which stranded on Pakefield Beach after grounding on Corton Sand. En route from Gothenburg to Ipswich with deals, battens, and other timber, she was a wooden sailing vessel.

`Yarmouth, May 19: The barque LOUISE, Stephansen, from Gottenburgh, bound to Ipswich with a cargo of deals, battens and other wood, struck on Corton Sand yesterday morning during a thick fog, and it is feared will become a wreck; part of the cargo has been picked up by boats, and brought in here, and some washed ashore at Caister and Lowestoft, and other parts of the coast; crew saved.' `Yarmouth, 18th May. A bark, of about 300 tons, apparently timber laden, got on the Corton Sand this mroning - several boats are alongside. 19th. The vessel on the Corton Sand yesterday was the LOUISE, Stephenson, from Gothenburg to Ipswich. She is now in tow of two cutters and salvage boats, having been got off, and is now proceeding to the southward. The deck deals and part of the cargo were thrown over, and washed on shore; the anchors and part of the stores have been landed.' (2)

`Yarmouth, 20th May. The LOUISE, Stephenson, from Gothenburg to Ipswich, which was on the Corton Sand, has drifted on shore on Pakefield Beach; cargo discharging.' (3)

1831 [year only given]. The bark LUCY, laden with timber, got on to Corton Sand, drove off in a waterlogged state, and went ashore at Lowestoft. (4)
