Full Description
1794 wreck of Dutch galliot which stranded on the Newcome Sand en route from Gluckstadt to Livorno with wheat; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty
`On the 14th inst. at 6 o'clock in the morning, the galliot YUFROW CATHERINE, Corn. Holme, from Glukstadt, bound to Leghorn with wheat, got on the Newcome Sand, and was lost. The crew were saved by a fishing smack.' (1)
NB: Even allowing for the non-standardized orthography of the period, the spellings JUFFROW and JUFROW were more usual,and the name has therefore also been given in the alternative versions JUFFROW/JUFROW CATHERINE.
