Full Description

Archaeological evaluation identified four probable phases of activity: Roman, medieval, post-medieval, and early modern. A single pit, the only one found across the whole site, contained a single sherd of late 1st - early 2nd century pottery. Medieval pottery was recovered form ditches in two trenches in the southeast half of the site, the character of the ditches suggest they were likely to have been field boundaries or small enclosures. No features typical of occupation activity were identified. Substantial quarry pits were identified along the eastern side of the site. Sherds of post-medieval pottery were recovered from a number of these features (S1).
