Dutch Cargo Vessel, 1295
Status: Casualty

1295 wreck of Dutch cargo vessel which stranded between Easton Broad and Covehithe en route from Dordrecht to Great Yarmouth. Carrying passengers as well as goods, and constructed of wood, she was a sailing vessel.

Sept. 1, 1295, Westminster: '…on complaint by Frederic, son of Sibrandus de Durdragh [Dordrecht], merchant of the Count of Hoyland, that his ship, which he has freighted at Durdragh with his own goods to bring to Jernemuta [Yarmouth], being driven by temptest to the sea-coast near Cove and Eston, co. Norfolk, and being wrecked and broken to pieces there, and the said goods cast upon the shore, some men of those parts took them, althoug sailors and ithers then in the ship having escaped alive, such goods could by law of the realm be held to be wreckage, carried them away and still keep them.'
