Full Description

`Settlement'. One hearth, `loom weights', probable storage pits seen. Sherds of LBA-EIA (750-500 BC) pottery (S2).
BAA 006 (TM06NW2) is mislocation of BAA 005, EIA occupation, 'hearths and flints'. Gravel pit finds.
Five loom weights were found, three of which went to the BM. The two specimens at IPSMG are 6.25 inches and 4 inches high and were described at the time as truncated pyramids. Basil Brown revisited the site in 1946 when it was hoped to continue excavation but the site had been almost entirely quarried away and, according to the workmen, nothing further had been found (S1).
Note - description of pottery and drawings in (S3). Further details relating to loomweights (& correspondence from BM & IPSMG) in (S5).
See also Rom.
2013: Evaluation (on edge of former quarry?) located mainly LBA/EIA material. Details to follow.
