Full Description
This site was discovered in field drainage and consisted of a patch of black soil which, excavated, revealed a small pit with a trench leading into it. This produced sherds of IA coarse pottery, animal bones, charcoal, burnt clay and a bone spindle whorl decorated with incised concentric circles. There was a clay subsoil and it was noted that two other patches of black earth showed on the field (S1,S2,S3,S4,S6).
It is thought that this site may be Saxon rather than IA due to the ornamentation on the spindle whorl (S5).
