Full Description
Bronze socketed axe with skeumorphic representation of a hafted and bound flanged axe. Slight expansion of cutting edge. Length 9.3cm. Of N European affinity where best parallels suggest origin in Reineeke A2, circa 1250-1500 BC (S1)(R1)(R2).
Suggestion of manufacture under the Arreton tradition (S2) refuted by Needham (R2), although a relationship is still accepted (S1).
Found by Mr E G Beckett (deceased) circa 1930 on 'stony patch' (S1). Map reference from (S3) and (S4).
Possibly false findspot - see discussion in (S6).
