Full Description

Med sherds of green glazed pottery, Hinderclay types, found after deep ploughing in 1963-1964, on field east of Elms Farm by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). Basil Brown states site to be "site of buildings" and earlier wares and later stone wares were also present (S1)(S2). Field to N of this (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), is marked by Basil Brown as having black patches at depth of 1 foot 9 inches (S3).
Lead Papal bulla found at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) with a metal detector (S4). The bulla appears to have been cut with shears and only about two thirds survives. It bears the name of a Pope Urban - the dates of the various Urbans suggests a range from late C12 to late C14. Edward I penny and further pottery sherds also found (S4).
