Full Description
Med church of St Mary the Virgin, possibly on site of church mentioned in Domesday book. Basil Brown noted that this was the dedication given in Kirby's 'Suffolk Traveller' but on OS maps it is given as St Botolph. The confusion seems to lie only with the OS office as all sources, including modern local sources, refer to St Mary. The Chapel of St Botolph in Botesdale is part of the Redgrave Church and the mistake in naming probably lies here (S1)(R1).
Declared redundant April 2005.
2007 Church guide in parish file.
2006/2007 Archaeological monitoring carried out during the construction of toilet facilities within the west tower uncovered some of the church foundations, details in the report (S2).
1996: Impressed medieval floor tile, dark green, glazed, 282 mm square, 24mm thick, details in (S3).
The 14th century church is situated on a natural rise. No evidence ofa barrow. (S4)
