Full Description

IA occupation found on Spears Hill during pipe laying in November 1955 on low lying area of field, which is very wet despite drainage.
1. V ditch 3 feet deep, E-W, sherds found TM 0684 7776.
2. 14 feet diameter hut circle lying between ditches 1. and 3, containing hearth with pottery and animal bones (base of Rom Samian pot found in upper layer near hearth), TM 0686 7773.
3. V ditch 3 feet deep aligned E-W containing pottery, S of 2, TM 0686 7768 (S1)(S2).
Basil Brown noted on OS map that Spears Hill is detailed on old plans as Deers Hill.
