Monument record MNL 013 - Judes Ferry, West Row, Mildenhall, (Mesolithic)

1967: Scatter of patinated flint artefacts, including tranchet axe and flakes, small blades and scrapers. Incomplete findspot given for tranchet axe in (S1) and (S2). Revised 1987 by Colin Pendleton.

Also crude oblique type arrowhead from(possibly Mesolithic)(S3).

All above finds probably redeposited - see (S5).

1994: excavation of evaluation trench revealed extremely deep peat deposits of former river channel (including worked wood, not mentioned in S4) overlain by a layer of chalky soil including early 19th century platform gunflint production waste as well as mesolithic flintwork [this may have come from the large chalk extraction pit just to the north] (S4).
