The wider system forms a perimeter defence or ‘stop line’ around Lowestoft. See LWT 194-7, LWT 199-200 for other nearby components of this defensive system. The site consists of a camouflaged type 22 pillbox (visible uncovered in 1947 (S4)), located in the centre of the field, and an earthen defended area set within the hedge line, which appears to be concealing a further structure, which is partially visible in 1944 (S2). This may have been a further gun emplacement or potentially an air raid shelter.
