Full Description
Mixture of linear cropmarks and circular enclosure (or large ring ditch) of c.60m diameter, possibly contemporary (S1).2006: Google earth image shows gap (entrance) in circuit on SSE. Possibly linked to adjoining field boundaries and trackway (to NE) (S2).
January 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
A large area of multi-period field system, boundary and trackway cropmarks are visible on aerial photographs (S3-S8, S10-S11). The site is centred on TM 5178 9610. The ring ditch previously recorded under this number is now under FTN 013. Comparison with the 1652 Estate Map of Somerleyton (S9) would suggest that at least some of the boundaries relate to the medieval to post medieval landscape, although many, in particular those aligned diagonally to the modern landscape are more likely to be earlier in date, potentially later prehistoric and/or Roman. It is not possible within the current project scope to attempt to refine the phasing of these fragmentary and overlying field systems.

March 2023. Assessment of the Character and Significance of East Anglian Field Systems project.
The site described above was included in the dataset analysed for the Historic England-funded Assessment of East Anglian Field Systems project. See the project report (S12) for further details.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council Environment Team), 21 March 2023.
