Full Description
March 2014. Lothingland, Lowestoft and North Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
Fragmentary linear and rectilinear cropmarks of unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1) in the northwest corner of Somerleyton Park (SHER SOL 015), centred at TM 4866 9804. Some or all of them could relate to the more extensive cropmarks of a field system of possible Roman date visible to their immediate north (SHER LUD 016). They could instead relate to the park itself, although there is no obvious evidence that this is the case. Finds of prehistoric to post medieval date have been recovered from the area (SHER ASY 006).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 13th March 2014.
March 2023. Assessment of the Character and Significance of East Anglian Field Systems project.
The site described above was included in the dataset analysed for the Historic England-funded Assessment of East Anglian Field Systems project. See the project report (S2) for further details.
